CDHS recognizes five adoptive families in celebration of National Adoption Month

In celebration of National Adoption Month and to encourage more Coloradans to adopt from foster care, CDHS recognized five adoptive families from across the state on Saturday in a virtual celebration. The families were joined by CDHS leadership, caseworkers and adoption professionals from county departments of human/social services, child placement agencies and the families’ loved ones from across the country for a virtual celebration. 

Colorado adds Western Slope route to opioid use disorder mobile health services program

CDHS's Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) has added a new Western Slope route to our mobile health services program that provides opioid use disorder treatment to rural and frontier communities. OBH’s mobile health services program dispatches mobile health units — six Winnebagos transformed into health clinics and one SUV — to areas with high opioid overdose rates and scarce treatment options.

Colorado awards $4.3 million in grants to prevent substance use disorder

DENVER (Sept. 28, 2020) — The Colorado Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) awarded nearly $4.3 million in grants to fund 26 prevention programs that serve Colorado youth and families, some of which are receiving OBH funds for the first time.   

OBH funds prevention programs that aim to lower rates of substance misuse by promoting the wellbeing of children and families. 

CDHS partners with CSU-Pueblo to enroll DYS youth in college courses

DENVER (Oct. 7, 2020) — Today, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) and Colorado State University-Pueblo announced that youth involved in the Division of Youth Services (DYS) will be able to enroll in college courses while they are in DYS care. This partnership will allow youth to pursue higher education beyond vocational programming and into college coursework after attaining their high school diploma or GED.

Colorado releases guidance on learning pods

DENVER (Sept. 10, 2020) - The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) are providing parents and caregivers with guidance regarding joining a learning pod this school year. Learning pods are being formed by families of school-age children in homes of parents and other adults to facilitate supervision of the children who are learning remotely during the school day.

Colorado Child Support Services receives $1 million grant

DENVER (Sept. 9, 2020) — The Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) was recently awarded a nearly $1 million federal grant to develop programs to educate teens and young adults about parenthood. This grant will help ensure that young people have access to important information that will increase their knowledge of education and employment resources, healthy relationships, and the importance of family planning methods that are effective as well as accessible.
