Aug. 1, 2024 — The Colorado Juvenile Parole Board is seeking applications to fill one open public at-large seat. The deadline to apply is Aug. 30.
The Juvenile Parole Board is a nine-member, Type 1 transfer board, supported by staff housed in the Office of Children, Youth, and Families within the Colorado Department of Human Services. Members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The board has independent authority to make parole decisions for all youth adjudicated to the Division of Youth Services and is authorized by C.R.S 19-2.5-1201.
The mission of the Juvenile Parole Board is to promote public safety by using statutory criteria in the best interest of the youth and victim when reintegrating the youth into the community. Parole hearings are held six days per month and board meetings are held once a month virtually or in Denver. This is not a full-time paid position, but public at-large members are paid $75 for a half-day or $150 for a full day and are reimbursed for actual expenses incurred, such as mileage and hotel when conducting board business. Applicants must not be employees of the state government.
Primary board member responsibilities are:
- Committing to 25 to 30 hours a month conducting board business
- Reviewing youth files prior to parole hearings
- Participating in one to two parole hearings per month
- Attending the monthly statutorily required board meeting
CDHS strongly encourages diversity in its applicants and urges volunteers from all parts of the state with varied backgrounds and life experiences to apply. To apply for a seat on the Juvenile Parole Board, complete the Governor’s Office of Boards and Commissions Application and submit a current resume by Aug. 30.
