July 28, 2022 — The Veterans Community Living Centers (VCLC) Board of Commissioners is currently seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on its seven-member board. Positions are appointed by the governor for a four-year term of office. Candidates must be a Colorado resident and meet one of the two criteria: a licensed nursing home administrator (with current Colorado license); or a veteran.

The functions of the board of commissioners are to:

  • Advise the office and VCLCs located in Monte Vista (Homelake), Florence (McCandless), Rifle, Aurora (Fitzsimons), and Walsenburg (Spanish Peaks);
  • Provide continuity, predictability and stability in the operation of the veterans centers; and
  • Provide guidance to future administrators at the veterans centers based on the collective institutional memory of the board.

Board members meet every other month for 2-3 hours per meeting. Meetings are currently held virtually; however, travel to the VCLCs may be required in the future once COVID-related healthcare facility restrictions are lifted.

CDHS values broad, diverse representation on its boards to ensure adequate representation of stakeholders and the public. If you or someone you know is interested in serving the state of Colorado in this capacity, please submit, or encourage them to submit, an application by May 1.
