March 12, 2025 — The Veterans Community Living Center Board of Commissioners is currently seeking applicants to fill two vacancies. Positions on the seven-member board are appointed by the governor, and members serve for four years. Board members meet quarterly for 2-3 hours per meeting. Meetings are held virtually and/or at veterans homes throughout Colorado.
The functions of the board are to:
- Advise the office and veterans homes located in Monte Vista (Homelake), Florence (McCandless), Rifle, Aurora (Fitzsimons) and Walsenburg (Spanish Peaks);
- Provide continuity, predictability and stability in the operation of the veterans centers; and
- Provide guidance to future administrators at the veterans centers based on the collective institutional memory of the board.
Candidates for this round of vacancies must be residents of Colorado, must be either a Republican or an independent, and must meet one of the two criteria:
- Expertise in nursing home operations and practical experience in nursing homes
- Expertise in nursing home operations and experience in multi-facility management of nursing homes.
