About Platte Valley Youth Services Center
Platte Valley Youth Services Center is a 73-bed co-ed secure, multipurpose youth center in Greeley. The youth center provides secure detention and commitment services. The facility is located in the Northeast Region of the state and serves clients from five Colorado judicial districts: the 8th, 13th, 17th, 19th and 20th Judicial Districts. These districts encompass 12 counties: Larimer, Jackson, Boulder, Weld, Adams, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma and Kit Carson.
Platte Valley is a secure custody location for long-term sentenced/committed youth to the Division of Youth Services. The youth center has counselors, behavioral health specialists and a licensed psychologist. Platte Valley provides a wide variety of treatment services grounded in evidenced-based principles and cognitive-behavioral interventions, including relationship-based and strengths-based services.

Platte Valley Youth Services Center provides services in the areas of individual, family and group therapy, substance use treatment, psychological evaluation, medication management, case management, individualized education, restorative justice, life skills education, transitional services, and gender-specific (female) programming. The youth center also provides services for youth committed on a sexual offense. Committed youth are provided the opportunity to participate in a food service vocational program in accordance with their needs and interests. The program is both accredited and certified.
The local school district, Weld County District 6, provides licensed teaching staff for the youth center's comprehensive school. Youth can generate the credits necessary to receive a diploma or receive a GED certificate while at Platte Valley. Some post-secondary offerings through Aims Community College are available if they can be subsidized.
All youth are given the opportunity to attend weekly religious services and the youth center will make arrangements as necessary for independent services. Youth are all granted one hour of recreation daily and are provided nutritious meals and snacks that correspond to the daily caloric intake required by the federal school lunch program.

The family is an integral part of the team working with youth involved in the Division of Youth Services. DYS strives to honor family experience and culture, empower all family members, utilize family strengths and instill hope for a safe and successful future.

Visitation is an avenue to build and maintain healthy family and community relationships. Families of youth in the care of the DYS are encouraged to visit the youth center. All visits require a scheduled appointment. You can request visitation by contacting the Platte Valley Control Center at 970.304.6220.

Office of Colorado’s Child Protection Ombudsman
The Office of Colorado’s Child Protection Ombudsman helps youth and families address concerns about youth experiences and treatment while living in the Division of Youth Services (DYS) youth centers. The CPO is an independent state agency that investigates complaints and grievances about DYS and provides free and confidential assistance to anyone who calls.
