DENVER (Nov.14, 2025)—November is National Family Caregivers Month, a month to build awareness of the contributions and sacrifices that millions of Americans make to provide care and medical assistance to parents, children, siblings, and other loved ones. In Colorado alone, 1,032,000 people provide care to a family member or friend with complex medical conditions or disabilities, according to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the National Alliance for Caregiving.

This year, in spite of funding challenges the Colorado Respite Coalition, a program of Easterseals Colorado, is committed to ensuring Colorado family caregivers know about the resources available to them. However, reaching family caregivers in a way that resonates continues to be a challenge for agencies across the state. After interviewing several family caregivers and collaborating with a variety of professionals who support caregivers, the Coalition has developed a new approach to reach caregivers: Comedy and Cartoons.

Colorado Respite Coalition collaborated with local artist Drew Litton to create a series of cartoons that illustrate the everyday experiences caregivers face. One cartoon depicts a caregiver with nine arms, tending to a baby, a child, and an older man simultaneously while cooking, doing laundry, and pulling her hair out. The caption reads “You don’t have to do it all.”

Another shows a caregiver with a heavy ball shackled to their ankle labeled “caregiving duties.” They are wondering, “Is this EVER going to get any easier?”. Next to them is a sign that says, “Resources for Caregivers This Way” and the cartoon is captioned “If you are looking for a sign, this is it.”

“Resources This Way” is a refrain repeated throughout the campaign. People who click on the cartoons will be directed to a landing page with curated lists of statewide, low-cost or free resources available to family members caring for older adults, adults with disabilities and kids with disabilities.

“Our hope is that caregivers across Colorado see themselves in the campaign,” says Megan Bettinger, Program Director at Colorado Respite Coalition. “We hope that the cartoons stand out and motivate family caregivers to take that step to get support. We hope that the authenticity and empathy that went into designing these cartoons really shines through.” Check out the full collection of cartoons.
