Note: This issue has been resolved.

DENVER (June 29, 2023) — The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) has been made aware of sporadic call-routing issues with the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline — 844-CO-4-KIDS (844.264.5437) — that are placed after hours. The routing issues began at approximately 5 p.m. and are lasting until the early morning hours. Some calls are inappropriately being routed to an individual who is not a hotline operator and cannot hear the caller.

If this occurs when callers attempt to reach the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline after hours, they are urged to hang up and try the call again until they reach an 844-CO-4-KIDS hotline operator. For some callers, this may take a few extra tries.

The parameters of the problem are unknown, and it is difficult to know how many calls are being affected at this time. Staff at the Division of Child Welfare are actively working to resolve the issue. There is no workaround or timeframe for resolution known at this time, except for calling the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline as many times as needed to get through to a hotline operator.

CDHS will provide further guidance as this issue unfolds and is resolved.
