Wheat Ridge Regional Center

IMPORTANT COVID-19 NOTICE: In order to protect our residents, we ask that you do not visit any of our Regional Centers at this time. Only essential individuals are currently allowed to enter. We appreciate your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please call any Regional Center facility by phone.

The Wheat Ridge Regional Center opened on July 1, 1912. When the facility first opened, it housed children between the ages of five and 14, and later began supporting individuals ranging from three months old to 70 years old.

In the 1980s the philosophy of services for people with developmental disabilities changed in order to focus on community based services for the individuals served. Wheat Ridge Regional Center was given funds to build 14 new group homes in the community near the main campus. The downsizing was a direct link to many of the Community Center Boards offering smaller, more individualized settings for the individuals served. The people supported at Wheat Ridge Regional Center work with their treatment team to develop individualized programs to assist them in reaching their individualized goals.
