DENVER (June 16, 2023) — The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) is hosting a same-day hiring event for registered nurses on June 21 at the state’s two mental health hospitals in Denver and Pueblo. With a focus on patient-centered care, CDHS is dedicated to recruiting and retaining the best talent in the industry.

Colorado, along with most of the nation, faces a nursing shortage. This shortage is especially acute in the field of behavioral health. In an effort to attract top nursing talent, the event is meant to expedite the hiring process and make it easier than ever to begin a secure and rewarding career with the state. Registered nurses can start at the two state mental health hospitals with competitive pay, along with an 8% temporary pay differential and a $14,000 sign-on bonus.

"Our hospitals support hope, health and recovery for Coloradans struggling with mental illness," said Leora Joseph, director of the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health, which oversees the two state hospitals. "Our nurses play a critical role and we are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to succeed."

CDHS is accepting applications from individuals licensed as a registered nurse by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or any of the nearly 40 states participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet with hiring managers, see the facilities and complete on-site interviews. Qualified candidates will receive job offers on the spot.

The same-day hiring event will take place on June 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan, 3520 W. Oxford Ave., Denver
  • Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo, 1600 W. 24th St., Pueblo
