Resource Document for County Directors

After completing the migration of Option #2 counties and Option #3 EBT mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange to Google, CDHS is shifting gears to activating Google two-factor authentication (2FA) by January 31, 22 for Option #3 state-provided Google users.

What: Two-factor authentication (2FA) increases security by reducing the risk of unauthorized access. It will protect you and your data, allowing only those with legitimate business purposes to access it, preventing criminals from using it for fraudulent purposes. The additional login step of entering a passcode along with a username and password makes it much more difficult for someone with bad intent to obtain login information and access the data of the clients you serve.

Who: Option #2 county users with state-provided Google accounts.

Why: Two-factor authentication (2FA)  will protect you and your data, allowing only those with legitimate business purposes to access it, preventing criminals from using it for fraudulent purposes. The additional login step of entering a passcode along with a username and password makes it much more difficult for someone with bad intent to obtain login information and access the data of the clients you serve.

It is important to note that two-factor authentication (2FA) for Google is separate and in no way connected to the 2FA process used for other state applications (CHATS, ACSES, etc.). Google’s two-factor authentication process will not utilize tokens. 2FA for Google is currently optional for county users; however, all users will be prompted to turn it on at the end of the month.

When: January 31, 2022
